THE AMCHAM POST - April 20 2023

ANTANANARIVO – The American Chamber of Commerce in Madagascar (AmCham) and the U.S. Embassy are partnering to empower the women business leaders of Madagascar.
As part of the U.S. government-sponsored POWER initiative (Providing Opportunities for Women’s Economic Rise), AmCham and the Embassy hosted the first of three intensive trainings for Malagasy business leaders in Antananarivo, April 11-13. The training brought together more than 70 women business leaders from Madagascar’s agribusiness sector in the Analamanga region.
The program helps women business leaders access the U.S. market by offering information and skill development to address U.S. market requirements. The training focused on U.S. market exploration, requirements for the exportation of food items, the best business practices, access to funding, and AGOA and GSP awareness.
The POWER initiative, a program supported by the U.S. Bureau of Economic and Business Affairs, promotes projects that connect the U.S. private sector with women entrepreneurs and business leaders around the world. Programs support women’s economic participation, better the financial position of women worldwide, and promote trade and economic relations between the United States and partner nations.
AmCham is seeking women business owners and managers of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) operating in the agribusiness sector to participate in the May 23-25 workshop in Toamasina and the June 20-22 workshop in Antsirabe. Participants from the Atsinanana, Analanjirofo, Alaotra Mangoro, Vakinankaratra, Amoron’i Mania, Matsiatra Ambony, Vatovavy, Fitovinany, Menabe and surrounding areas are invited to apply.

FIM
FIM’s 2023 edition: Focus on Eco-responsibility
Gérard Monloup, CEO of SPI Forello - Hazovato
Dear exhibitors,
The International Fair of Madagascar is the economic event of the year.
It brings together quality economic actors, innovative investors, small or large, national or foreign, private or public, all convinced that there is a development potential for their activities.
We, the organizers, are the first to be convinced of this. This year, 2023, marks the change of management of FIM.
After the great work done by Première Ligne for 20 years, it is up to us to take up the torch, to carry the flame even further towards innovation and the promotion of economic activity.
However, we must keep our wits about us. What this energy is for if our growth is not sustainable? If we do not accompany our development with that of our natural environment?
To this question, we will evacuate any eco-terrorist solution, any aggressive militancy, any act of violence which would be justified by the urgency to act.
In Madagascar, as elsewhere in the world, we simply need to inform each person, whoever he or she is, young or old, that he or she can perfectly work in harmony with nature. God knows that this nature is generous and how much we love our ambanivohitra (countryside).
Then, we are going to work for each one of us to wake up, at our scale, this love of the nature by simple gestures, by simple decisions, maybe with the help of professionals, but there we go anyway.
For all the Forello-Expo shows in 2023, each exhibitor will commit, with his means, and without any complex, to show the general public how he has thought about his environment.
We all know what we can do, what the solutions are, so let's be proud to continue or start our eco-attitude.
We count on you, thank you and wish an excellent fair to all of you.

Eliane: a keen female chef
Chef Eliane, head chef at Tamboho restaurant
As we celebrate Women's Day, we take a moment to appreciate the incredible women who have made their mark in various fields, including the culinary world. One such woman is Chef Eliane, who has carved out a name for herself by serving delicious food in her restaurant. Let us take a closer look at her journey and what makes her unique.
Eliane, head chef at Tamboho restaurant, has always had a passion for cooking. Growing up with other dreams, she shifted slowly into cooking to follow her passion. She was particularly drawn to the vibrant and complex flavors, and knew that she wanted to share this culinary tradition with the world.
Eliane's journey to becoming a chef was not an easy one. She started out as an extra in a restaurant kitchen, working long hours and doing whatever tasks were asked of her. But she was determined to learn as much as possible about the culinary world and worked her way up the ranks to become a demi-chef de partie, chef de partie, sous chef junior, and eventually a head chef.
One of the hallmarks of Eliane's restaurant is the use of locally sourced ingredients. She believes that it is important to support local farmers and producers, and that using fresh, high-quality ingredients is essential to creating delicious and authentic African cuisine. Sustainability is also a key consideration in her sourcing choices.
Eliane is passionate about introducing people to the rich and diverse flavors of the continent. She believes that food is a powerful way to bring people together and bridge cultural divides. Through her restaurant, she hopes to create a space where people can come together to experience the vibrant and complex flavors of African cuisine, and to learn about the culture and traditions that inspire her cooking.
As a female chef, she firmly believes in the importance of hard work, perseverance, and constantly pushing oneself to learn and grow. For aspiring chefs, particularly women who may face additional obstacles in the industry, Eliane's advice is to never give up on your dreams. She believes that with hard work, determination, and a willingness to learn, anyone can achieve success in the culinary world.
Looking to the future, Eliane is excited to continue growing and evolving her restaurant, and to introduce more people to the delicious and vibrant flavors. She hopes to use her platform to promote diversity and inclusivity in the culinary world, and to empower other women to pursue their passions and achieve their goals.
As we are around the International Women's Day celebration, Eliane reflects on the importance of honoring women's rights and values, not just in the culinary industry, but in all aspects of society. She believes that by supporting and empowering women, we can create a more just and equitable world for everyone.
